Leveraging AI for Oil and Gas
AI has been a hot topic in Oil & Gas for years now, and in the hype cycle of new technologies I think we are firmly atop the Peak of Inflated Expectations. There's reason for excitement, but that excitement needs to be tempered with what AI is good at, and what it is not. Read Michael's thoughts here.
This slipped past our radar screen back in May but Omnira (MOSAIC, Verdazo) bought Adept, a U.K.-based Production Allocation system. We've seen a lot of O&G software firms buy complimentary solutions, especially diversifying from Accounting into systems like Production Allocation or Well Lifecycle (e.g. Quorum and Pak). Interesting to see a reserves-focused software firm follow that path.
Power BI September Update
Pretty big batch this time, including enhancements to Time Intelligence, DAX user-defined functions, moving lots of things from Preview to General Availability, and several Copilot releases. The demo of the new Power Query Online capabilities is particularly cool.

Wood Mac/Novi Partnership
There's been a wave of announcements in the last two years for companies chasing the S&P/Enverus data subscription duopoly. Here's another one on a partnership between Wood Mackenzie and Novi Labs, on the heels of Novi raising $35mm in June. Is anyone going to be able to break through? We know of at least 5 that seem to be making serious attempts...
