Our 2026 E&P Software Survey is up and ready for submissions!  We're collecting data on The Big Six, BI tools, Data Warehousing platforms, and two new categories (Electronic Invoicing and Geology/Geophsysics).  If you've participated before, please send in a submission just in case there are changes we should be aware of!  We're aiming to publish this one (our fourth report so far) in the spring.

Microsoft Ignite Conference

Microsoft's annual Ignite conference was a few weeks ago - see here for some high-level info.  Ignite is as much about marketing as it is technical content, but there were some new features and capabilities released (hint: AI, AI, and more AI).  We were interested in the increased focus on MCP (Model Context Protocol) server implementations to allow multiple AI tools talk to each other more effectively, including 3rd party apps.  There was also a lot of governance content for Teams and SharePoint, in part to better control what AI agents have access to and are doing.  Plus Anthropic's Claude model is now available on Microsoft Foundry.

Microsoft SQL Server 2025 going GA

Microsoft is sticking to its 3-year cycle for major releases, with the first new named version since 2022.  There's news for both SSMS and SSIS - SSMS 22 better source control through native Git integration, and Copilot is now built-in for AI assistance writing SQL.  SSIS remains a workhorse at lots and lots of E&P companies, and the new release pushes towards Fabric migrations and integration.

Enverus podcast

Manuj Nikhanj, the CEO of Enverus, was on an interesting podcast recently with some details about the business we hadn't heard disclosed publicly before.  A few other tidbits: ~$670mm in ARR, up from $500mm ARR in 2023, total revenue up to ~$1B/yr, $500B/yr running through OpenInvoice (wow).  They are huge, and want to keep getting bigger.
